| More than a philosophy, Jubilee Fine Jewellers is a
way of life that enabled the Charania family to come to Canada and
build a chain of jewellery stores that rival the finest in the world.
We proudly take our name from a stone of exceptional whiteness and
clarity, the Jubilee. This breathtaking wonder is a flawless cushion-shaped
gem of 45.35 carats fashioned from a rough stone discovered in 1895
in the Jagersfontein Mine in South Africa.
History
Mo Charania was 11 years old when his family, led by his father
Haider and his uncles, Mike and Ali, fled war-torn Uganda. Prosperous
jewellers in Uganda since 1952, they came to Canada with only the
clothes on their backs, their knowledge of jewellery and watch-making
and their Jubilee name.
The Family Name
The family chain opened their first store in Ottawa and had by 1977
grown to four Ottawa stores. Inspired to work for the next generation,
the family continued to expand operations and bought out another
jewellery store chain. This key move secured them four premium locations
in Ottawa’s finest shopping centres.
Our Flagship Store
In August 1998, Jubilee embarked on a new phase of its development
by expanding its flag ship store in the Rideau Centre and positioning
it as the premier jeweller in Eastern Ontario. Today, tourists and
residents from Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and Kingston visit and
trust Jubilee as their preferred jeweller.
