Diamond Carat Weight

Diamonds, like other gemstones, are weighed in carats (abbreviated as CD). A carat is equal to 200 milligrams, and is divisible into 100 points of 2 milligrams each.

Carat Weight

A larger diamond will weigh more, but the most important thing is where the weight is distributed. If there is too much weight in the bottom of the stone (or not enough), the light within the stone will not travel back to the observer, and the stone will not sparkle as much. The cut of the diamond is critical! A smaller diamond that is properly cut will have more impact than a larger stone that is improperly cut.
